Be The Hero is a hybrid role-play game. Friends gather in one room with one tablet or phone. Each friend picks a real hospital job, dresses in that job's outfit, and the app walks the whole squad through a day in the life of a hospital: start of shift, rounds, the big moment, and end of shift.
The screen is the guide. The play happens in real life. A 4-year-old nurse checks her teddy bear's wristband and listens to its heart. A 12-year-old doctor takes a history with real hospital words. A 17-year-old finishes the shift with a real next step, like booking a CPR class. Adults 21 and up connect to real hospital experiences through official volunteer, shadowing and simulation-lab programs.
The same game grows with the player, from teddy-bear clinic to a real career path. That ladder is the product.
Safety line for the 21+ tier. "Being in a real hospital" means official routes only: hospital volunteer offices, shadowing days, EMS ride-alongs, and simulation-lab open houses. Only licensed staff give real patient care. The game never asks a player to act as a clinician with real patients.
When friends of different ages play together, the app offers the actions the youngest player can join, and gives each friend the version of the mission that matches their own age.
| Ages | Tier | How they play | Example: Nurse |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0โ5 | Teddy Clinic | A grown-up reads aloud. The patient is a teddy or doll. Big pictures, no losing. | Check Teddy's wristband, listen to its heart, give a bandage. |
| 5โ9 | Junior Hero | Props and dress-up, one fun fact per mission. | Take Teddy's temperature and learn that normal is about 98.6ยฐF. |
| 9โ13 | Hero Academy | Real hospital words and real steps. | Vital signs and the Five Rights of medicine. |
| 13โ16 | Hero Explorer | Real steps plus the career path behind each job. | Shift handoff, then: "Nursing school โ NCLEX โ RN." |
| 16โ18 | Hero Volunteer | Each shift ends with one real-world step. | Take a CPR class or find a nursing summer camp. |
| 18โ21 | Hero Trainee | Play links to real training. | Train as a CNA or shadow a nurse. |
| 21+ | Real World | Real hospital experiences through official programs. | Volunteer on a unit or book a shadowing day. |
50 roles across 9 departments. Roles marked PLAYABLE IN V1 are in the game below; the rest join in later versions.
Pass the device around the room. Everything runs on this page with no accounts, no photos and no data leaving the device.
Order a Be The Hero kit, shop the marketplace for gear at every level, or build your kit from things already at home. Families buy once and add a monthly Shift Box with a new action, new missions and new gear. Schools, camps and training programs buy by the season or the year.
Start with plastic play gear, then upgrade as your hero grows, all the way to clinical training equipment. Your current level is highlighted.
Unit costs, margins, the Year 1 calculator, valuation and the build log are private to the app owner and administrators. Sign in to the Admin area to see them.
Built on self-determination theory: games stay fun when players feel capable, have real choices, and play together. Every reward is free, never sold, and never lost.

A full shift earns about 200 XP: 25 per mission, 15 per team challenge, 10โ40 for the bonus game, and 50 for finishing. Hero progress is saved on the device under each hero's name.
We run our own Be The Hero server inside Maple Hospital, the biggest hospital role-play on Roblox (1.84 billion visits). The app owner and app administrators create the servers and share invites with families and camps. Server links, code and partner material stay in the Admin area.
For schools, camps, colleges and our own staff. One owner, admins, teachers and kid profiles, each with their own view.
A third page for older players and classrooms: a hospital workstation with fictional patients. It opens in Kids mode (blue, with tips and starter missions) and switches to Advanced mode (white, full hospital terms).
We follow the strictest kids' rules we found. Apple's Kids Category sets the store rules, Google Play's Teacher Approved program sets the quality bar, the UK Children's Code sets what fits each age, and the FTC's Fortnite case shows what never to do.
| Rule | Where it comes from | How Be The Hero does it |
|---|---|---|
| No purchases or links out in the kids' area | Apple Kids Category 1.3 | Ordering sits behind a grown-up gate (a math question kids can't answer yet). |
| No third-party ads or tracking | Apple 1.3 and 5.1.4, COPPA | No ads, no analytics, no accounts. Nothing leaves the device. |
| No chat by default | FTC v. Epic Games (2022) | No chat at all. Friends play together in the same room. |
| No tricky buttons or pressure to buy | FTC v. Epic Games | One clear Reserve button, behind the gate, with the total shown first. |
| Pictures and sound over text for ages 0โ5 | UK Children's Code, ages 0โ5 | Read-aloud on every mission, big pictures, a grown-up helper in the Teddy Clinic tier. |
| Play together with a grown-up for little ones | American Academy of Pediatrics | The screen guides; the play happens in the room. Grown-ups read along for ages 0โ5. |
| Don't assume kids can read, ages 6โ9 | UK Children's Code, ages 6โ9 | Read-aloud for ages 0โ9, three-step missions, picture buttons. |
| No reward pressure, ages 10โ12 | UK Children's Code, ages 10โ12 | No streaks, no countdowns to lose, no "come back or lose it." Badges never expire. |
| No negative comparison, teens | UK Children's Code, ages 13โ15 | Team goals first (patient mood, team challenges). Stars are shown, never ranked. |
| Point teens to support beyond parents | UK Children's Code, ages 13โ17 | Career missions point to school nurses, counselors and HOSA advisors. |
| Age-right content, nothing scary for the youngest | Google Play Teacher Approved | Each age gets its own 10 actions. Groups play at the youngest hero's level. |
| Breaks and real-world play | AAP healthy media use | Every shift ends with a hero break: stretch, drink water, talk to a grown-up. |
Each action sets today's patient problem. The younger tiers are everyday bumps and sniffles; the older tiers move into first aid, then simulation-lab scenarios.
Nobody we found combines all three parts of this idea: in-room group role play, a digital guide, and an age ladder that ends at real hospital careers. Each part exists on its own, and each part has a proven market.
The open space is the ladder. Toy companies stop at play, KidZania stops at 14, and hospital pipeline programs start at high school. Be The Hero can sell to families at the bottom (play kits and the app) and to hospitals and schools at the top (career-pipeline programs), with the same characters running through both.
